Five reasons Xbox Elite controller is worth the price
In my nearly two decades as a gamer I’ve played with dozens of controllers yet I can confidently say the Xbox Elite controller is by far the best.
Retailing at $200AU, the Elite controller may seem like an awful lot to spend on a controller but believe me when I say it’s worth it. If your faith in humans is rightly running a bit thin right now after Donald Trump was elected US President, here are five reasons to believe me when I say the Elite controller is worth the considerable price tag.
- The Rumble
Stomping my way through Titanfall 2 has been taken to another level immersion courtesy of an Elite controller. With specifically placed vibration points which you can increase or lower at your leisure, the controller makes you truly feel the weight and indeed power of your titan. Every step comes with an empowering grumble while a melee smash is as satisfying as you’d expect. Unlike a standard controller that issues one generic throb, the Elite truly captures the ebb and flow of a game to truly immerse you in your gaming experience.
- The Feel
With a rubberised diamond padding on the back, triggers that don’t feel like they’re going to break and a little extra overall weight, the Elite controller just feels right in the hand. The rubber grip on the back really does make the controller easier to control and has already stood the test of sweaty palms that on a standard controller would leave it noticeably slippery. A decent amount heavier, the Elite controller does force your wrists to acclimatise to a different weight but once they do it nestles effortlessly into your hands. Going back to a standard controller just doesn’t feel right after a few sessions with an Elite.
- The Customisation
The standout feature of this controller is of course it’s customisable nature. Whether it’s those handy paddles at the back, a more flexible D-pad or thumb-sticks that your thumbs can truly love; the Elite is yours to make how you want it. Personally the two paddles at the back have really come in handy during Titanfall 2 as I can now lob grenades and shoot almost seamlessly without having to adjust finger positioning. The hair triggers locks have also proven very handy as it without a doubt allows for marginally quicker response times.
- The Jack
Being able to plug in a headset without the need of an adapter is priceless. But the Elite controller does literally save you $30 and a bulky accessory by letting you plug your headset of choice straight into your controller. After over a year of stubbornly refusing to buy an adapter, my new controller has let me experiment and enjoy various headsets.
- The Case
Rarely treated with the care they deserve, the Elite controller comes with one slick looking case to entice you to look after it right. Whether you’re putting it away ahead of a week of work or taking it to a friend’s house, the case will keep your controller at the top of it’s game while letting you unveil it with the suspense and glory it deserves.
