Hideo Kojima announces new joint venture with Playstation
2 days ago Hideo Kojima wrote on twitter; “My employment contract with Konami has been terminated as of Dec 15th, so today marks a new start for me. I’m committed to be involved in creative activities for as long as I live.”
That new start comes in the form of Kojima Productions, a new independent development studio set up by Hideo himself. Wasting little time, the man behind Metal Gear Solid announced a joint venture with Sony, which will ensure the first title to come from Kojima productions will be available exclusively to the Playstation platform.
Explaining why he decided to embark on this exclusive joint venture with Sony, Kojima explained;
“I will be taking on a new challenge by establishing my own independent studio, and I am thrilled to be able to embark on this journey with PlayStation, who I have continued to work with all these past years. I cannot wait to deliver, with PlayStation, a game that will become a compelling franchise.”
Speaking with IGN, Kojima added;
“It’s thanks to Sony that I was able to make a splash in the global market. It’s been 10-plus years since then and the working relationship at Sony, the people at Sony, we gel well.
I got several offers from many different companies but with Sony it came to a point where I know these people, we know each other very well.”
